It’s All About Attitude

Ukraine

President Zelensky is modest and very inclusive of all aspects of Ukraine. I believe he is a great person and a great leader. Here is what he said about being named Person of the Year.

“It is an honor for me – to represent the struggle of Ukrainians and the Spirit of Ukraine. The spirit of freedom that echoes in the souls of so many people around the world. Stories of heroes, who are fighting for independence, are also – your stories.

You have already seen the spirit of Ukraine on the covers of Time – not on each one, but on many. They were not Ukrainians – on the covers before, but they were – courage, striving for freedom, solidarity, creativity and dedication, – values well known to the mankind from a long time ago and which united the world this year with the colors of the Ukrainian national flag and our people’s achievements. This is the free world spirit. And let’s do everything for our spirit to win!”

Crypto

Bitcoin is down significantly from it’s high but has been relatively stable for six months. What will the price of Bitcoin be in 2023? Venture capitalist Tim Draper previously predicted Bitcoin would top $250,000 by the end of 2022. He is now sticking with the number but has extended his target date to the middle of 2023. He told CNBC, “I expect a flight to quality and decentralized crypto like bitcoin, and for some of the weaker coins to become relics.” Veteran investor Mark Mobius told CNBC that bitcoin could crash to $10,000 next year. I continue to believe nobody knows but I am bullish primarily because of the Lightning Network. Lightning is a layer 2 technology. Think of it like the World Wide Web is a layer 2 on top of the Internet. Lightning is planned to enable Bitcoin transactions will be lightning fast and have very low fees. If that turns out to be true, then Bitcoin could become an attractive alternative to today’s credit cards with their 2% or more fees.

Wall Street

The worst week since September. The market is in a tizzy about inflation, interest rates, various economic indicators. GAMMAT stocks down to $7.2 trillion. Tesla had a 3.23% rally despite concern Musk is spending too much time on Twitter. Delivering its first electric semi is a big deal in my opinion. Congress is doing a lot of talking about big tech regulation but has done nothing. A big fight is going to be Apple’s plan to offer end to end encryption to make our data totally secure and private. The FBI is complaining as they have before. I suspect there will be legislation proposed to give law enforcement a back door into user data. I doubt if Congress could pass it.
