New sections may appear every week or just when I have something new to share.

My talk at The Heritage Center in Redding, CT was fun. It was a very nice and very smart audience. The Q&A covered a lot of issues relating to AI, Bitcoin, and Quantum Computing. A similar talk is scheduled in June in Somers, NY.

Two new videos are now on my YouTube channel. The Hammock Dunes Tech Talk 13 video is here. The Economic Round Table – San Francisco Zoom is here. In case you missed it from a prior post, my podcast with Ron Cey is here.

On April 18, I gave a talk on “The Rise of AI and Bitcoin”for the Newtown, CT Men’s Club. The club has existed for more than 100 years. I had previously spoken to this group about healthcare in 2014 when I was just putting the final touches on my doctorate.

The talk by Zoom for the Economic Round Table – San Francisco was on April 10 . It was members and guests only, but is live on my YouTube channel here

March 28th was my 13th Tech Talk at Hammock Dunes Club. A PDF of my talk is at https://johnpatrick.com/techtalk13.pdf. The video is now available on my YouTube channel. I need to do some editing. I hope to have the final link next week.

This time of year, there is some kind of gala every week. Most of them are by and for the benefit of charitable organizations. This one was not charitable, but nevertheless a very nice event. It was the annual Kentucky Derby event at the Ridgewood Country Club in Danbury, CT.
My bride of 56 years. Two years ago she won the hat contest. This year they did not have the contest.

Here’s a summary of some key happenings in the crypto world this week (as of Friday, May 10th, 2024):

Bitcoin Price:

  • Bitcoin has seen a positive trend, reaching a fresh 2024 high above $61,000. This rally comes after a weaker-than-expected jobs report in the US, which might have prompted investors to seek alternative assets. By end of the week, BTC had receded to $60,000. My guess is we will see the price mostly flat for awhile as financial planners assess whether to recommend the spot BTC ETFs as an alternate investment for a small part of investment portfolios.

Interesting Stories:

  • Mysterious Emails: Dozens of emails allegedly sent by Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto have surfaced, sparking debate about their authenticity. While some experts remain skeptical, the story has generated excitement and renewed interest in Bitcoin’s origins.
  • Rising Adoption: News outlets report on continued institutional adoption of cryptocurrencies by major companies and investment firms. This mainstream acceptance is seen as a positive sign for the long-term growth of the crypto market.
  • Toncoin Soars: Telegram’s native token, Toncoin (TON), has experienced a significant price increase of over 50% this week. Analysts attribute this rise to several factors, including growing interest in the Telegram Open Network and potential use cases for TON.

Emerging Challenges:

  • Regulations: Regulatory uncertainty continues to be a concern for the crypto market. While some countries are embracing crypto, others are taking a more cautious approach, which can hinder broader adoption.
  • Environmental Concerns: The energy consumption of certain proof-of-work blockchains like Bitcoin remains a hot topic. Efforts are underway to develop more sustainable solutions for cryptocurrency mining.
