AIDA Cruises is an American/British owned German cruise line based in Rostock, Germany. AIDA offers cruises to many parts of the world including North America, Northern Europe, Western Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Mediterranean. The cruise line announced a telemedicine partnership with the Institute for Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at Rostock University. Shipboard medical personnel will now be able to share x-ray and ultrasound images with specialists on shore.

Telemedicine is booming on land, and now it has taken to the seas. AIDA’s eleven ships around the world will allow ship’s doctors to send x-rays, hold telephone conferences, and discuss diagnoses with experts at Rostock 24/7. Prof. Dr. Christian Schmidt, medical director at the university medical center said, “This partnership creates a new link between tourism and medicine.”
