I got rid of the wheelchair (donated it), got a four-wheeled walker, and headed back to the road to recovery following some major setbacks. The set of problems started in Florida, where I had two nasty falls, one on a sidewalk and one on a parking lot. One resulted in a nasty head wound, the other in three broken ribs and a broken clavicle. All are slowly healing. Then a rotator cuff tear developed in my right shoulder. Ugh, I am right handed. The tear calls for surgery but I am postponing that, maybe permanently.
In early May, we went on a cruise hoping to relax, but things got worse. The second fall resulted in my breaking my shoulder, specifically developing two cracks on either side of the artificial implant of my left arm. Essentially, what’s going on is that I’m getting weaker and trip easily.
The solution is physical therapy. I have been doing some of that but not enough. I am currently trying to enroll in Encompass Rehabilitation Hospital of Danbury. The brand new facility is less than 3/4 mile from my home. It is an inpatient environment where they “work” you 3-4 hours per day. Combined with a healthy robust diet to put some weight on me. I lost 35 pounds. The combination of acute rehab and diet I should get me back be on the road to recovery.
