Writing papers is always fun and I was privileged that the Design Management Institute asked me to write one for their Design Management Journal. The DMI Journal is “devoted to articles and case studies exploring how design – in products, communication, and environments – is an essential resource, a component of every organization that can be effectively managed to make important contributions to the bottom line and to long-term success”. The current issue, “Fusing Design, Strategy and Technology: Insights from the Frontiers of Design and Design Management” (Vol. 14, No. 2, Spring 2003) discusses how new technologies and business strategies are transforming how we design, what we design, and the ways in which we communicate design content. Addressing this metamorphosis, a number of contributors demonstrated that the Web can streamline communications. I had given a talk about The Future of The Internet at a DMI Conference in October 2002 in Chatam, Massachusetts and the paper “The Future of the Internet” reflects what I had to say.
