Little did I know that a few days later would come an announcement that Mars Inc. — with some financial backing from billionaire Warren Buffett — is buying The Wrigley Company, the one-hundred year-old powerhouse of chewing gum. The price tag for the acquisition is $23 billion and the merged companies will be the world’s largest confectionery company.
