Boston

The road to recovery continues, and each day I regain some strength. It was time to venture out on a trip. We decided to go to Boston and visit our son who lives there. After loading our luggage, I entered Raffles Boston into the Tesla’s flat panel and the Tesla knew the address. I confirmed that was where we wanted to go and pressed the “Start navigation” button. The Tesla pulled out of our driveway and took us to the Raffles Hotel. Not once did I touch the steering wheel. The eight cameras and computer on the Tesla helped the car to drive us safely for the 164 miles from home to the hotel.

We could have explored some of the many historic sites on Boston’s Freedom Trail including the Boston Common, King’s Chapel, the Benjamin Franklin Statue, Old Corner Bookstore, Old State House, Faneuil Hall, Paul Revere House, USS Constitution (“Old Ironsides”), and the Bunker Hill Monument to name a few. We had been to Boston before and seen many of the historic sites. I wasn’t up to make the walking all over town. This trip was to chill, eat and chill, and eating in Boston never disappoints.

We started out with a nice dinner at Eastern Standard with our son and our granddaughter, who also lives in Boston. The next day we had lunch at The Westland with our son and a friend of his. From there we walked a short distance to Symphony Hall for a matinee concert  by the Boston Symphony Orchestra. The amazing program began with Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 22 performed by Emmanuel Ax. Ax is 77 years old. He was born in Lviv, in present-day Ukraine. He is an inspiration, and having seen him perform No. 22 before at Tanglewood, we knew we were in for a marvelous performance. Wanting to experience another Boston dining experience, we topped off the day with dinner at the palate-pleasing Mooo Steakhouse.

On Saturday we had another taste of Boston at the Annual Pizza Festival, a carnival atmosphere which was big on people-watching, contests, as well as pizza tasting. Then we had a great Italian dinner in the beautiful La Padrona Restaurant with  our son capped off our four day mini-vacation.

Then it was time to leave the Bean City and go back to Connecticut. They brought the Tesla to outside the hotel. When we arrived on Thursday, the valet attendant had told us they would ensure the Tesla would be fully charged during our stay. It was not. The remaining 136 of battery charge was not quite enough to get us home. I hit the Home button and told the car to navigate us home. The Tesla knew it needed a small charge to get us home. On the flat screen may it showed it would take us to a Tesla Supercharger along the way. From there the car drove us home. 

Boston is a remarkable city where America’s revolutionary past meets a powerful modern spirit of learning, culture, medicine, and innovation. From the Freedom Trail and historic harbor to world-class universities, hospitals, museums, restaurants, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, it combines deep tradition with constant reinvention, making it one of the country’s most distinctive and inspiring cities. It is also a great place to chill and eat.
